Different types of e-mails can be sent from the OXID eShop. After placing an order, customers receive an e-mail documenting the order. Customers also receive an e-mail when they register for your OXID eShop. As a shop operator, you can send newsletters in order to inform your customers about the latest news.

To ensure proper function of e-mail distribution, the SMTP data has to be entered correctly and the e-mail addresses have to be set up. The settings necessary for this function can be found in the Main tab in the section Master Settings -> Core Settings.

Usually, a separate mail server is used for e-mail distribution. If your company has such an in-house mail server which shall also be used for sending e-mails from the shop, you will need the server login information. Enter the login information into the SMTP Server, SMTP User and SMTP Password input fields. If you have chosen a hosting package, you will receive the SMTP data from your OXID Hosting Partner or your Internet Service Provider (ISP). By using PHP, e-mails are often sent directly via the server on which your shop is installed. The entry “localhost” is then used for the SMTP server.

Now define the e-mail addresses that shall receive e-mails from the shop. These e-mail addresses have to be set up on the mail server or in the mail configuration of your Hosting Package.

An e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address entered here whenever customers send a message via the contact page. Suitable e-mail addresses would be for example or

Order e-Mail reply
After placing an order in your shop, the customer receives an e-mail summarizing the order. It may occur that the customer replies to this e-mail, for example, because he has questions or comments regarding his order. The customer’s reply will be sent to the e-mail address entered here.

Order e-mails to
Also the shop operator receives an e-mail when a customer places an order in your shop. The notification about the order in the shop will be sent to the e-mail address entered here.

The shop sends a series of e-mails to the customer. Besides the order confirmation, this includes e-mails regarding the confirmation of a registration, password change and notification of order dispatch. An individual subject line can be specified for those e-mail types. The subject briefly summarizes the content of the e-mail. The subject line can also be written in various languages if your shop supplies customers in different countries. You can switch between the available languages by using the selection list.

Forgot password e-mail Subject
If the customer forgot his password, the “Forgot Password?” function allows him to request an e-mail for password change. Enter here the subject of this e-mail.

Click Save. E-mails are now sent with an individual subject line, yet with a standard text. How to edit the standard text of this e-mail can be found in the “CMS” section.
