Basic VAT settings can be made in Master Settings -> Core Settings -> Settings -> VAT in the admin panel. Normally, the default settings set at installation are suited for the most shops so that no changes are necessary. All listed options are unchecked and the VAT rate is set to 19 percent by default.
Default VAT for all Products
The figure 19 in the input field indicates that a VAT rate of 19 percent applies by default to all products at your shop. You can set a VAT rate other than the default value, for example 7 percent applicable to food.
Enter Product Prices as Net Prices (plus VAT)
For all products, it is possible to enter the price as net price. The VAT then has to be calculated for each product in the shop before its gross price can be displayed. There is an option ensuring that the VAT is displayed only in the shopping cart and during the order process. Thus, the shop would indicate a product’s net price; the VAT would be calculated and displayed only when a product is added to the cart. The Calculate specific VAT for countries only in Shopping Cart and Checkout option can be found in Master Settings -> Core Settings -> Perform.
Like product prices, also shipping costs, payment method fees and gift wrapping costs can be entered as net prices. Further settings allow you to determine how detailed shipping costs, payment method fees and gift wrapping costs will be indicated in the shopping cart. By default, the gross amount will be displayed. However, each price can also be displayed as net amount plus separate VAT.
Use shipping country for VAT calculation instead of billing country
By default, it is set at installation that the VAT is calculated on base of the VAT rate of the billing address. The invoice recipient’s address determines whether VAT will be calculated or not. Alternatively, the shipping address can serve as the basis for VAT calculation.
